The passion is so great that even the protagonists suffer from nerves and recently we could see how Racing coach Gustavo Costas took desperate measures to keep calm in the middle of a match.
Racing and Tigre were vying for a place in the semi-finals of the Argentine tournament and the tension was so great that the duel ended goalless and they went to penalties. The nervousness was so high that Gustavo Costas had to smoke a cigarette to calm the tension and the television cameras caught him, generating laughter and controversy.

Racing and Tigre went to penalties to decide who would go to the semi-finals and it was at that moment that Gustavo Costas could not control himself and decided to go to the bench to calm his nerves, but the curious thing was his method of doing so.
Costas went to the bench and asked his assistants to stand in front of him so that no one could see him. It was at that moment that the coach took out a cigarette and started smoking on the pitch, something that is penalized and could bring consequences for him and the club.
After the curious scene, the penalty shootout took place and, luckily for Costas, Racing won and qualified for the semifinals, but now the club will have to wait to see if they receive any punishment for the action of their coach.
Racing goes for Boca Juniors in the semifinals
With this classification, Racing will have to visit the Bombonera to face Boca Juniors in what for many is an early final, as they are two very big clubs in the country and are going through a good time.
Since Costas arrived at Racing, he has endeared himself to all the fans, as in addition to being a very charismatic character, he also managed to win the Copa Sudamericana in 2024 and this year reached the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores, so he was able to expand the club’s trophy cabinet.
