Are the Warriors done? Steve Kerr’s latest news on Jimmy Butler isn’t hopeful

The Golden State Warriors are facing a tough road in their Western Conference second-round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, with head coach Steve Kerr raising concerns about Jimmy Butler‘s health and confirming Steph Curry‘s absence for Game 5.

The Warriors trail 3-1 in the series, and the latest updates on their star players have fans worried about their chances of extending the matchup. The news underscores the challenges the team faces as they fight to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Butler, who joined the Warriors earlier this season, has been a key piece, averaging 22.4 points per game in the playoffs despite battling a glute injury. In Game 4, he played 43 minutes and took 26 shots, his highest since the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals, scoring 28 points in a losing effort.

However, Kerr expressed concern about Butler’s condition, noting, “Jimmy’s glute is still an issue-we’ll have to monitor him closely.” The veteran forward’s aggressive play has been crucial with Curry sidelined, but his injury could limit his effectiveness as the Warriors head into a must-win Game 5 on May 15 in Minnesota.

Kerr raises red flags on Butler

Curry, meanwhile, has been ruled out for Game 5 due to a lingering hamstring injury, dashing hopes of a timely return. The two-time MVP has been sidelined since Game 3, and Kerr had hoped a three-day break after Game 4 would allow Curry to suit up. “We were aiming for Game 6 as a more realistic target, but we’re not there yet,” Kerr said, emphasizing the team’s focus on securing a win to extend the series.

Butler, reflecting on the situation, added, “If we don’t win, we damn sure don’t have to worry about getting Steph back this year.” The Warriors’ 9-2 record with Butler in the lineup earlier this season highlights his importance, but the team now faces elimination without their star point guard.

The Timberwolves, led by Anthony Edwards’ 30-point performance in Game 4, capitalized on a 17-0 third-quarter run to take a commanding series lead. Fans on X have been vocal, with one user posting, “Warriors need Butler at 100%-this series is slipping away!” Despite the setbacks, Jonathan Kuminga has stepped up, leading the team with 23 points in Game 4, offering a glimmer of hope. As the Warriors prepare for a do-or-die Game 5, all eyes are on Butler’s health and the team’s ability to rally without Curry on the court.
