Arch Manning’s grandfather sends a warning to NFL teams planning to draft his grandson

As talk grows about Arch Manning’s NFL days ahead, his granddad and former football star, Archie Manning, has a strong message for teams wanting the Texas QB in the 2026 NFL Draft: do not bet on it.

In a recent conversation with the New York Post, Archie cut down on talks that Arch would join the draft after the 2025 season. “He’s not going to do that,” Archie stated. “He’ll beat Texas.”

A football family working with patience

The words act as a clear sign to NFL teams hoping Manning would join the league soon. Coming from a family known for NFL QB greatness like Archie, Peyton, and Eli, Arch has always been under the big bright light. Still, the family wants to make sure Arch grows fully before stepping on the professional scene.

Archie’s advice goes with the family’s usual approach. Both Peyton and Eli finished college before turning pro, and Arch seems set to do the same, following his family’s path, even with his big name in college football.

The reason NFL teams keep an eye on him

Though he is not a full-time starter for Texas yet, Arch Manning’s skills draw big interest in all football directions. His play last year showed great arm strength, athleticism, and an unexpected maturity on the field. With a NIL worth over $6 million, he is not in a rush to jump to the league.

NFL teams needing a QB in 2026, like the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, and Washington Commanders, are keeping an eye on Manning as a future key player. Archie’s words may make these teams rethink their future picks for now.

A calculated path to reach heaven

Arch’s granddad said they are looking at his career in a long term view. “He’s developing the right way,” noted Archie. “There’s no rush.” This way of thinking built the paths of his uncles and grandfather, putting readiness before fame and hype.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian also pushes Manning’s slow growth, letting him learn behind experienced players like Quinn Ewers and slowly getting him into games. For now, Arch might fight for the main role this fall, with the Longhorns seen as early playoff picks.

How the Draft can be affected

If Manning stays at Texas after the 2025 season, the QB scene for the 2026 NFL Draft could change a lot. Teams needing a top QB may have to think again and look at other players.

NFL experts, like ESPN’s Adam Schefter, told teams not to think Manning will be up for grabs in 2026, hinting he might stay longer than some expect.

With his name written on every NFL team wishes list, Arch Manning may wait a bit longer to make his NFL debut. He wants to do things nice and slow in order to learn as much as he can before that massive step. Now that even his grandfather stated his plan, NFL teams must look for other options to enhance their future squad.

The Manning NFL era must wait.
