Former NFL star Antonio Brown is currently embroiled in a major legal controversy following a shooting incident outside a celebrity boxing event in Miami.

The Miami-Dade County Police Department has issued an arrest warrant charging Brown with attempted murder with a firearm.

This comes after allegations that Brown fired two shots at Zul-Qarnain Nantambu during a confrontation. One of the shots reportedly grazed Nantambu’s neck, leading to a serious investigation into the incident.

The altercation occurred on May 16, 2025, at a boxing event held in the Little Haiti neighborhood of Miami. What started as a heated confrontation between Brown and Nantambu quickly escalated into violence. According to reports, Brown punched Nantambu during the incident, and the situation worsened when Brown allegedly grabbed a firearm from a nearby security staff member and fired at Nantambu.

Surveillance footage and cellphone videos support these claims, with some witnesses stating that Brown shot at Nantambu in a calculated manner.

Nantambu has since spoken out, claiming that Brown is lying about the events and that the incident was sparked by a longstanding financial dispute between the two. Nantambu alleges that Brown owes him tens of thousands of dollars, and suggests that the shooting may have been an attempt to avoid paying his debts.

“He plays gangster and plays the police at the same time,” Nantambu said in an interview, referring to Brown’s alleged actions and attempts to deflect responsibility by blaming the incident on external factors like CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy).

In the aftermath of the shooting, Brown was initially taken into custody by police but was later released due to the absence of Nantambu, the alleged victim.

Despite his release, an arrest warrant was issued for Brown a few weeks later, with the charge of attempted murder. The bond for his release has been set at $10,000, and a house arrest order has been placed upon posting the bond.

Brown’s response and international escape

In response to the arrest warrant, Brown took to social media, posting a series of videos and photos claiming that he was the victim of racial profiling. He denied any wrongdoing and asserted that he was only defending himself during the altercation. The former NFL player also made it clear that he was not planning to return to Miami anytime soon.

Brown then traveled overseas to the Middle East, visiting Dubai and the United Arab Emirates, while the arrest warrant remained active in Miami. Miami-Dade Police Chief Manny Morales confirmed that Brown is believed to still be in Dubai.

However, authorities are not actively pursuing Brown internationally. Instead, they have been in contact with his legal team and are simply waiting for his return to face the charges.

While Brown maintains his innocence, the victim’s allegations, combined with the available evidence, point to a more complex and troubling narrative. As this case progresses, it serves as a reminder that actions, especially those involving violence, have consequences-no matter one’s celebrity status.
