Antonio Brown faces arrest warrant for attempted murder

Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is now fighting more than just his past on-field controversies.

Authorities in Miami-Dade County have issued an arrest warrant charging the 36-year-old with attempted murder using a firearm, according to legal documents reviewed by reputable outlets.

This development comes nearly a month after a shooting at a celebrity boxing event where Brown allegedly pulled a gun and fired two shots, injuring a man.

What happened at the boxing event

The incident unfolded in May in Miami, immediately following a celebrity boxing night hosted by online personality Adin Ross. Multiple alerts prompted police to the scene where Brown was spotted in a scuffle.

Surveillance and bystander footage reportedly show him punching a man, seizing a handgun from an off-duty security guard, and discharging two rounds, one grazing the victim’s neck.

Investigators recovered two spent shell casings and an empty holster but did not immediately find a weapon on Brown.

Although police detained Brown briefly that night, no arrest was made. Video circulating online shows him in handcuffs, but he was released after statements were taken. Brown later claimed he and his jewelry were targeted in what he described as a robbery attempt. In a post to X, he wrote:

“Regarding the boxing event that happened last night. I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me. Contrary to some video circulating, Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED.”

He added that he planned to “press charges on the individuals that jumped me” and pledged to “keep you all posted step-by-step on the process.”

Legal fallout and warrant details

On June 11, a judge in Miami-Dade signed the warrant charging Brown with attempted murder with a firearm. The document states that witnesses identified Brown as the shooter and detailed how he “began to run toward him with a firearm” and allegedly fired at the victim twice.

The victim, treated at Aventura Hospital, confirmed he had known Brown since 2022 and suffered a grazing wound to his neck.

Under the warrant, Brown must post a $10,000 bond and remain under house arrest pending trial. Law enforcement claims they have so far been unable to locate him.

This accusation represents the latest in a series of off-field legal troubles for Brown, whose post-football life has drawn scrutiny. Since exiting the NFL in 2021, he has faced allegations including unpaid child support, domestic violence, indecent exposure, bankruptcy filings, and prior arrest warrants.

During his NFL career, Brown earned acclaim as a four time first team AllPro, seven Pro Bowls, and a Super Bowl LV victory with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But his reputation has since been overshadowed by erratic behaviour.
