Anthony Volpe, the young shortstop for the New York Yankees, is going through one of the most difficult moments since he arrived in MLB

It was in the series against the Boston Red Sox that the 24-year-old was relegated from the starting lineup, a decision that immediately raised alarm bells about his performance.

Although one of the things that drew attention to this situation was that Anthony Volpe gave a clear sign of self-criticism by recognizing the responsibility he has had after lowering his level to what he was used to and accepted that this is completely his own doing, without making excuses and with total sincerity.

Volpe’s hard blow in a historic rivalry

Anthony Volpe said: “It’s all my fault”, fully accepting his poor offensive form and also his defensive difficulties, which have influenced the decision to relegate him from the main lineup.

As a competitor, I take it as a blow. I understand it and I know I have to be better

A clear example of the enormous pressure on the shoulders of the New York Yankees players

Despite the fact that it was a complicated and painful decision, the New York Yankees shortstop also showed gestures of maturity in this scenario of great pressure as is the team for which he plays and, above all, in Major League Baseball.

Aaron Boone’s decision to give him a break did not go unnoticed after the series against the Boston Red Sox, the historic rival of the Bronx Bombers, making this moment more complicated for the 24-year-old.

Anthony Volpe barely managed one hit in his last 28 at-bats, a negative streak that has affected him in his last few games and hit his confidence every time he stepped up to the plate.

But in addition to his offensive struggles, the shortstop has also had problems on defense. The glove was one of his weapons and lately he has been seen making errors and lack of concentration not seen before in Anthony Volpe

Boone backs Volpe

Despite being left out of the starting lineup, manager Aaron Boone maintains his support for Anthony Volpe and clarified that the decision is more about giving him a mental break so he can refocus.

Boone has defended the talent of the young shortstop of the Bronx Bombers, so he has him considered as a key piece for the team not only in the short term, but also for the future of the franchise.

“With Anthony, it’s about helping him regain confidence. We know what he means to the team and what he can bring. Right now he needs time to adjust his swing and get comfortable on the field,” explained the Yankees manager.

This change in his role is only expected to be a pause and he can rejoin as soon as possible, as the Yankees trust the ability of Anthony Volpe and know how brilliant he can be.
