Anthony Rizzo retires from Major League Baseball: Here’s everything he won with the Chicago Cubs

Anthony Rizzo has retired from Major League Baseball after 14 seasons. In addition to the Chicago Cubs, the New York Yankees were also one of the teams the first baseman played for, in fact, he spent his last four years of his MLB career with the Bronx Bombers. The news was confirmed by Cubs CEO Tom Ricketts, who said:

“Anthony Rizzo was the face of one of the most successful eras in Chicago Cubs history and we are thrilled that he will be part of our organization for many years to come. His play on the field spoke for itself and he was recognized with multiple All-Star appearances,” he said

Anthony Rizzo to become Cubs ambassador on September 13

Anthony Rizzo will retire as a Cub during a ceremony at Wrigley Field before Saturday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Rizzo will also become an ambassador for the Cubs after hanging up his boots and will do so this weekend in front of his home crowd who have supported him throughout his career.

Other Cubs ambassadors include Andre Dawson, Ryan Dempster, Fergie Jenkins, Lee Smith, Billy Williams, Kerry Wood and Ben Zobrist. In-memoriam ambassadors include Ernie Banks, Ryne Sandberg and Ron Santo.

Anthony Rizzo retires from MLB with 303 home runs

The 36-year-old played 10 of his 14 major league seasons with Chicago. The infielder hit .272 with 242 home runs and 784 RBIs for the Cubs, whom he helped win their first championship in 108 years in 2016.

In addition to his four Gold Gloves, Rizzo won a Platinum Glove and a Silver Slugger. He played his rookie season with the San Diego Padres and completed his Major League career with 1,644 hits, 303 home runs and 965 RBIs in 1,727 games.
