The boxing world is in shock following the tragedy that befell Anthony Joshua in Nigeria. The former world heavyweight champion, who just 10 days earlier was celebrating a resounding knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami, was involved in a fatal road accident that radically changed his priorities.

The accident had an impact around the world and Joshua was miraculously saved. Unfortunately, two of his companions were not so lucky, as they lost their lives, but the boxer promised not to abandon their families.

An accident that left two victims

The accident took place on the Lagos-Ibadan highway, one of the busiest and most dangerous routes in the African country. According to official sources such as EFE and the Nigerian media outlet The Punch, the Lexus vehicle in which Joshua was traveling as a passenger collided with a parked truck after allegedly suffering a tire blowout at high speed.

Although the 36-year-old boxer managed to survive with minor injuries, the toll was devastating for his inner circle. His fitness trainer Sina Ghami and personal trainer Latif Ayodele lost their lives at the scene. Both were not only fundamental pillars of his work team, but also close friends with whom Joshua had shared moments of relaxation hours before the impact.

Anthony Joshua’s promise after fatal accident

Beyond the ring, Joshua’s true stature has been evident in his reaction to the duel. According to reports in the British newspaper The Sun, the boxer has made a solemn commitment: to look after the families Ghami and Ayodele left behind.

Under the slogan “The Keeper of My Brothers”, Joshua has made it clear that his loyalty does not end with the physical disappearance of his teammates. Witnesses and sources close to him say that the sportsman has already met with the victims’ families to assure them that they will have his unconditional support for the rest of their lives.
