With the epic Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight in the rearview mirror, the attention is now turning to other divisions in the boxing world to see what will come next for high-profile stars. A lot of eyes will be on the upcoming Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis event, but in terms of real boxing fights with high stakes, the heavyweight division may be next up.
On October 25, two of the top contenders in the division will go toe-to-toe. Joseph Parker and Fabio Wardley will square off for the WBO heavyweight interim title. This comes after Oleksandr Usyk passed on facing Parker, who was the WBO mandatory challenger. Usyk, meanwhile, has been waiting for the right opportunity to materialize. A trilogy fight against Tyson Fury seems possible, but not set in stone. Usyk also has competition to fight The Gypsy King, as it seems that Anthony Joshua wants a piece of him.
Anthony Joshua is looking in prime shape as 2026 nears
Fury is technically in “retirement“, but everyone knows he’s just waiting for the right financial opportunity to jump back into the ring. The question is whether Joshua wants to keep waiting for Fury, or if he decides to take a tune-up fight.
While he waits, Joshua is certainly keeping in shape. Fitness has never been a question for Joshua, but he made sure to send a warning shot with a recent video where he showed off his physique and quick hands.
The odds right now are that Joshua will face a middling to average opponent in early 2026 before fighting Fury later in the year. But if Usyk and Fury agree to a bout before then, the plan could be thrown out the window.
