Anthony Joshua says he will destroy Jake Paul because winning on points is not enough

Less than two weeks away from his highly anticipated December 19 showdown in Miami, former unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has ramped up the pressure on himself. Aware of the public’s expectations ahead of his fight with Jake Paul, Joshua has declared that a simple decision victory will not be acceptable.

Joshua is quite confident and wants to make things clear in his fight against Paul. AJ spoke in an interview with TMZ and among several topics addressed, he explained that he will practically seek to “destroy” Jake Paul.

Anthony Joshua vows to destroy Jake Paul

In the recent interview with TMZ, Joshua addressed the demands of the boxing community, who expect the veteran to not only win, but to demolish his opponent. AJ surprised by admitting that he shares that same expectation.

“I really understand where they’re coming from. I get it,” Joshua said, referring to the demand for a knockout. “I know the expectations and demands that these fans have. And I respect it… I hold myself in that same regard, so I’ve got to knock Jake out and that’s my intention, seek and destroy!”

Despite Joshua’s confidence, AJ revealed that he believes his rival is not faking his arrogance and style. According to the former champion, Paul genuinely believes he can win and “shock the world.”

“I do think he thinks he’s going to beat me,” Joshua admitted. “I’m not preparing for the person that everyone thinks he is, I’m preparing for the person that he thinks he is.”

Anthony Joshua talks about weight restriction in fight against Jake Paul

Joshua also addressed a reported clause. He was asked about the weight restriction that supposedly forced him to weigh less than 245 pounds for the weigh-in, a lighter weight than in his last fights.

“I actually like this weight,” AJ confessed about the new restriction. “It’s actually been a blessing in disguise that I was tasked with this because I feel good,” suggesting that the lower weight gives him more speed without sacrificing his power.

Although he has achieved everything in boxing, and the fight with Paul is lucrative, Joshua left the door open to the possibility that this could be his last fight, so the boxer’s future is uncertain.
