The heavyweight division was on fire in 2024. Really, boxing as a whole has been on fire over the past two years, but last year gave us two separate wars between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury, which is more than any boxing fanatic could have asked for. Of course, Usyk reigned supreme and established himself once again as the king of the division.
While Usyk and Fury were beating each other’s faces in, Anthony Joshua was on a comeback tour, Daniel Dubois was establishing himself as a force in the division, and Joseph Parker was taking down giants. Of those three, Joshua is obviously the biggest name, so everyone wants to know what he’s going to do next. A stoppage loss to Dubois put his ascent to world champion on hold, and now he must wait to see what unfolds with other fighters.
Anthony Joshua says Tyson Fury fight “has to happen” in 2025
The issue is that Joshua doesn’t have a ton of years left in the sport, and he knows it. That’s why in a recent interview, Joshua put some pressure on Fury to finally make their long-awaited fight happen soon.
It’s a fight that I want to see. I’m a boxing fan, I want to get that out of the way. The reason why I decided to do some interesting stuff is that I ain’t got many years ahead of me. I got more years behind me than I have in front of me. I want to leave the game with a bang… and go for the big fights: Tyson Fury is one of them… So as a fighter it’s up to me to deliver. It has to happen this year.
Joshua is 35 years old, having turned that in October. His loss to Dubois exposed some flaws and he showed his age a bit. Fury is no spring chicken himself, having turned 36 years old in August.
It behooves both fighters to get a bout finalized as soon as possible, in order to give fans a proper show and allow each boxer to fight in their best form.
