Anthony Joshua claims Jake Paul is “better” than Tyson Fury for one specific reason

It’s really happening. After the bombshell news dropped of Anthony Joshua stepping in to replace Gervonta Davis for a fight against Jake Paul, the boxing industry was thrown for a loop. No one actually believed a fight like this could ever come to fruition.

Money talks, Joshua needs a tune-up fight ahead of 2026 and Paul wants to finally show he can hang with an elite boxer. Joshua is practically treating Paul like a sparring stepping stone before what he hopes is a bout against Tyson Fury in 2026. Joshua and Fury haven’t stopped trading verbal jobs through the media this year, and that has continued even with Paul being AJ’s immediate focus.

Anthony Joshua says Jake Paul is “better” than Tyson Fury

During the launch press conference for the fight, Joshua couldn’t help but let his hatred for Fury get the best of him. AJ actually showed plenty of respect for Paul for one reason: Paul stepped up to fight him, unlike Fury.

He’s a conqueror, his mentality is solid. He’s better than Tyson Fury – he’s actually sitting here. I take him seriously. I give him the respect he deserves.

Joshua is obviously referring to the fact that his mega fight with Fury could never really get off the ground. Fury has seemingly been waiting for Oleksandr Usyk and Usyk only, leaving Joshua with no choice to move on for the time being. Surprisingly, he moved on to Paul.

But clearly there’s a lingering resentment for Fury. Fury himself was quoted months back saying that he thinks Paul would beat Joshua. So it seems like AJ is just returning the favor for that moment. Neither of them actually believes Paul is better than either.
