Anthony Edwards scored 20 points, added nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals to help the Minnesota Timbervolves beat the Golden State Warriors 117-93 and tied the Western Conference Semifinals 1-1.
Julius Randles had himself a game, with 24 points, 11 assists, and seven rebounds to give Minnesota momentum going into game 3, which will be played at Chase Center on Saturday.
The Warriors played without superstar Stephen Curry, who will miss at least one week with a strained left hamstring that he suffered in the second quarter of game 1. Jonathan Kuminga had 18 points for the Warriors, Jimmy Butler added 17 and Buddy Hield and Treyce Jackson-Davis contributed with 15 points apiece in the losing effort.
Anthony Edwards gets disgusted with Michael Irvin
A couple of stars were in attendance at Target Center to watch Anthony Edwards and the rest of the Minnesota Timberwolves give the Golden State Warriors a fight. One of them was legendary wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, Michael Irvin.
The NFL Hall of Famer is a big fan of Edwards‘ game and he let the All-Star know that after the game, when both engaged in a brief conversation. After greeting each other, Irvin asked Anthony for a picture, and the NBA stud was happy to get a photo with the NFL legend. However, what happened next disgusted Edwards. Michael went on to give the basketball player a kiss on the cheek.
The Twolve quickly distanced himself from the former football player and he showed his clear disapproval of what happened. However, Edwards told a reporter that he got nothing but respect for Michael Irvin. “That’s OG, man. I met him before, man. I got nothing but love for him, for sure,” he said.
Losing Curry has the Warriors looking for answers
Losing Steph Curry for at least a week has to be one of the major challenges for the Golden State Warriors going into game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals. “Part of the game plan coming in was to play a lot of people, and we did,” head coach Steve Kerr said.
“We have to figure out what we’re going to be able to do in this series without Steph. We gave a lot of people a lot of chances, and some guys really stepped up.” Two in particular: Jonathan Kuminga and Trayce Jackson-Davis. The latter is a deep reserve big man who hit all six of his shots, clogged the middle defensively and scored 15 points.
Kuminga, 22, is a gifted athlete and long seen as part of Golden State‘s future. Wrapping his fourth NBA season, he fell out of the rotation in April, a negative heading into restricted free agency. Kuminga scored a team-high 18 off the bench. “We’ve got to figure out rotations and who we start, but they’re going to be a part of it,” Kerr said after his experiment.
