Anthony Davis, to avoid setbacks, could be out for longer than expected in Dallas

More concern in Texas. NBA insider Shams Charania reported that newly acquired Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis will undergo a “cautious rehab” for a left adductor strain sustained during his Mavericks debut. Davis, who was traded to the Mavericks in a blockbuster deal that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

Davis made a strong impression in his first game with the Mavericks, posting 26 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists in a victory over the Houston Rockets. However, the celebration was short-lived as Davis exited the game with a non-contact injury to his adductor muscle, commonly known as the groin.

The Mavericks are taking a cautious approach to Davis’ recovery, prioritizing his long-term health and ensuring he returns to full strength before rejoining the lineup. This means fans may have to wait a bit longer to see Davis back in action, but the team is hopeful he can make a return before the Play-In Tournament if the Mavericks don’t secure a playoff spot during the second half of the season.

A Promising Start Cut Short

Anthony Davis’ debut with the Mavericks was nothing short of spectacular. In just 31 minutes, he managed to score 26 points, grab 16 rebounds, and dish out seven assists, showcasing his all-around talent and impact on the court2. However, the excitement was dampened when Davis left the game with a non-contact injury, raising concerns about his health and availability for the rest of the season.

The Mavericks’ decision to take a cautious approach to Davis’ rehab reflects their commitment to his long-term health and performance. The team’s medical staff will closely monitor his progress and ensure he receives the necessary treatment to fully recover from the adductor strain1. This approach is crucial for Davis, who has a history of injuries throughout his career.

Davis’ absence will undoubtedly be felt by the Mavericks, who were counting on his defensive prowess and interior presence to complement their perimeter talent. The team will need to rely on other players to fill the void left by Davis and maintain their competitiveness in the Western Conference. In the meantime, Kyrie Irving will replace Davis in the upcoming 2025 NBA All-Star game, providing fans with another exciting player to watch.
