Anthony Davis reveals his weight plan as he will change his appearance due to his eye injury

Anthony Davis endured another injury-plagued year in 2024. After being acquired by Dallas, he managed just nine appearances before an eye injury forced him to shut things down.

The setback was the latest in a long line of physical issues that have interrupted his career, despite the fact he has always entered seasons looking lean and fit.

This summer, however, Davis chose a different approach to protect his body through the grind of a long season.

“I feel good….I’m usually like 255, 258. Never want to come in at my playing weight because then I lose weight during the season, and then I’m too small. I lose about 10 to 12 pounds very quickly,” Davis explained in an interview with Buisier Development.

By beginning the year heavier, Davis expects to shed pounds naturally while maintaining an ideal playing weight of around 245.

The goal is to avoid being worn down too quickly and reduce the risk of further injuries, a key factor if the Mavericks are to contend at the highest level.

New look, familiar comparisons

Along with his new weight management plan, Davis will also take the floor this season with protective goggles, a precaution following his eye injury last year. The decision has already sparked plenty of fan reactions, with some pointing out the resemblance to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, whose goggles became one of the most recognizable accessories in NBA history.

The comparisons, often lighthearted, highlight just how rare it is to see a modern big man sporting eyewear. But for Davis, the change is strictly about extending his career and avoiding another serious setback. Given his history of injuries, even small adjustments could be vital to keeping him on the floor during the Mavericks’ title run.

Elite production when available

Despite the stops and starts of his career, Davis‘ talent has never been in doubt. He has averaged at least 20 points per game in every season since entering the league in 2012, a level of consistency few big men have maintained.

At his peak, he finished third in MVP voting in 2018, demonstrating the caliber of player he can be when healthy.

For Dallas, that version of Davis could make the difference between falling short and lifting a championship trophy.

With Irving sidelined until February, he will be relied upon to provide scoring, rebounding, and defensive stability alongside Doni. His experience also gives rookie Cooper Flagg a mentor as the teenager adjusts to the demands of the NBA.

Now entering his 14th season, Davis is at a pivotal stage of his career. He has the chance to redefine his legacy in Dallas by pairing his production with consistent availability.
