Anthony Davis makes it clear to Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving that he is number one on the Mavericks

Anthony Davis finds himself at the center of an unlikely contender with the Dallas Mavericks as he has an exciting group of teammates and two who share the No. 1 overall pick tag with him – but he flashes a warning to Cooper Flagg about their roles.

But the 32-year-old Dallas Mavericks star is jokingly reminding them that they may be No. 1 overall picks as well, but he has something they will never attain as while shooting a promo for his teammates, he joked about his college record compared to his peers’.

The NBA veteran was asked to explain a photoshoot he did with Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg as in the shoot, the three former No. 1 overall picks are raising their forefingers to indicate how all three of them share this in common.

But Davis had a different explanation in mind as he took the chance to gloat about his success in college with the University of Kentucky Wildcats all the way back in the 2012 season.

“I’m looking at three No. 1 picks,” Davis said. “Two that went to a school that you can’t spell without University of Kentucky, without UK.

“You can’t spell Duke without UK. They’re holding up the number ones for me, because I’m the only one that won a national championship out of these three.”

Even though he was teasing his teammates, he was factually on point. Despite all three of these superstars having elite college careers, the former Los Angeles Lakers center is the only one to have won a national championship amongst them.

In the preseason game against the Utah Jazz, he produced 25 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks, demonstrating his impact on both ends of the court and setting the tone for his teammates.

With the Mavericks poised for an exciting season, the dynamic between these former No. 1 picks highlights the blend of youthful potential and veteran leadership. Davis is making it clear that while all three are highly talented, he remains the player who has already achieved what many only aspire to.

Kyrie Irving vs Cooper Flagg vs Anthony Davis: How did their collegiate careers play out?

Irving‘s college career at Duke in 2010-11 was impressive but fell short of a championship.

He averaged 17.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists while shooting 52.9 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from three-point range. A toe ligament injury limited him, and the Blue Devils fell in the regional semifinals to Arizona.

Whilst Flagg had a strong collegiate showing as well. Standing 6-foot-9, the forward averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists, while blocking 1.4 shots per game and hitting 38.5 percent from deep.

Flagg‘s team finished 35-4 but lost in the semifinals to Houston, earning him a spot on the All-Tournament team despite the defeat.

Davis‘ Kentucky season, however, was legendary. He averaged 14.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 4.7 blocks per game while shooting 62.3 percent from the field.

His defensive dominance helped lead the Wildcats to an undefeated NCAA tournament and a 67-59 victory over Kansas in the championship game.

Now entering his first full season with Dallas, Davis is showing that his leadership extends beyond his college accomplishments.
