In another ruthless gesture, this time in MLB: a fan rudely stole the ball from an elderly man in the New York Mets game. First it was at the 2025 US Open, the last major tennis tournament of the year, and now at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets.

A New York Mets fan stole the ball from an elderly man in a disturbing scene at Citi Field. A viral video of a man fighting for a baseball against another in the stands at a New York Mets game at Citi Field went viral this week.

The incident appears to have occurred during the New York Mets’ 19-9 victory over the Miami Marlins on August 29, 2025, with the prize being a foul ball hit by the Marlins’ Xavier Edwards against Mets reliever Jose Castillo in the top of the seventh inning.

The action in the stands was not well received by the television commentators. “Guys fighting over the ball, come on now,” said Keith Hernandez, the analyst and former New York Mets player. While Gary Cohen, commentator said: “Wait a second, give it to a kid. He took it away from an old man.”

Not only at Citi Field but also at the 2025 US Open

During a spate of bad fan behavior in Queens, especially at the 2025 US Open, there were many viral moments for the wrong reasons in the first week of the tennis tournament.

Most infamously, Polish millionaire and CEO Piotr Szczerek stole a cap that his compatriot Kamil Majchrzak tried to give to a child after beating Karen Khachanov.

Another fan tried to reach for the zipper of Jannik Sinner‘s backpack as the No. 1 seed celebrated a victory over Alexander Bublik on Monday night. One man even approached Russian star Mirra Andreeva on the practice court in a disturbing moment. Something is in the air in Flushing – at least in the stands of the sports arenas.
