The Lakers, since their last championship in 2020, have been seeking another NBA title, and this season-as many fans will recall-they acquired Luka Doncic, a basketball superstar brought in to try and bring the title back to Los Angeles. However, the performance of both the player and the team hasn’t been the best this 2025 season. And now, after this week’s loss to OKC, the slovenian sent a message to his former team that has made the entire Laker Nation nervous.

The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a tough 121-92 defeat against the Oklahoma City Thunder, a game in which Luka Doncic was unusually quiet, scoring only 19 points on 7-of-20 shooting. But the real drama unfolded afterward, when Doncic faced a barrage of questions about the firing of general manager Nico Harrison by the Dallas Mavericks, the man responsible for trading him.

Will Luka Doncic return to the Mavericks? Here’s what the Lakers point guard said

When asked about his reaction to the news, Doncic expressed a deep affection for his former home. “I mean, just the city of Dallas, the fans, the players, they’ll always have a special place in my heart,” he stated. This heartfelt acknowledgment came from a player who spent his first seven NBA seasons with the Mavericks, leading them to the 2014 NBA Finals.

Doncic was asked if he could envision a return to the Mavs franchise in the future. The Lakers star quickly shut down this line of questioning. “Right now, I’m just focused on the Lakers,” he replied-ending firmly with a smile-“no comments.” This evasive response, combined with his clear emotional connection to Dallas, immediately sparked concern among fans.

Luka Doncic takes blame for loss to Oklahoma City Thunder

It was a tough night at the Paycom Center, as the Los Angeles Lakers suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder, losing 121-92. Following the loss, Luka Doncic took the blame himself during the post-game press conference. “Probably one of my worst games this season,” Doncic admitted. He finished with 19 points, shooting 7-for-20 from the field, including 1-for-7 from three-point range.

He also added seven rebounds and seven assists, though he also committed four turnovers. “I think we need to be more prepared. It all started with me,” Doncic stated. He also acknowledged their next opponent, the New Orleans Pelicans. He commented that the Lakers need to play with greater physical intensity at the start of games, even against a team like the Pelicans.
