Angel Reese is no stranger to attention or controversy. Known for her bold personality and unfiltered voice, she’s often turned criticism into opportunity, even launching apparel inspired by her nickname, “Boards Barbie.” But this time, her outspokenness may have gone too far.

In a recent interview with the Chicago Tribune, Reese expressed dissatisfaction with the Sky’s current roster and future prospects.

“I’m not settling for the same shit we did this year. We have to get good players,” she said, adding doubts about whether veteran Courtney Vandersloot or anyone else on the team could lead the franchise long term.

The comments sparked tension inside the locker room. Though Reese later clarified her statements, saying, “I don’t think I’m frustrated. I probably am frustrated with myself right now… I would apologize to my teammates, which I already have,” the damage was done.

According to Front Office Sports, a team meeting was scheduled to directly address the situation, raising concerns about her future in Chicago.

Despite the friction, teammates like Ariel Atkins have publicly supported Reese in the past, hinting that reconciliation is possible.

WNBA’s tough season continues

This situation adds to a growing list of challenges for the WNBA this year, from allegations of racism among fans to disputes over the collective bargaining agreement, safety concerns, and coaching controversies.

And now, another setback: Caitlin Clark, one of the league’s most talked-about rookies, announced she won’t return this season after ongoing injury issues. “Disappointed isn’t a big enough word,” Clark shared on X. “I want to thank everyone who had my back… Now it’s time to close out the season and claim our spot in the Playoffs.”

With both Clark and Reese making headlines for reasons beyond their play, the league is struggling to shift the spotlight back to basketball, at a time when it matters most.
