Angel Reese has made history this week by becoming the first professional athlete to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, a moment that solidified her growing influence beyond basketball.
On Wednesday night, Reese stepped onto the runway wearing a pink floral lingerie set, joining some of the fashion world’s top models in an event celebrated for its blend of artistry and empowerment.
Her appearance, which quickly went viral online, marked another moment where the 22-year-old star crossed from sports into pop culture.
“It was destined for me,” Reese said before the show, according to the Associated Press. “This is already for me. I’m so happy to be sitting in this room with so many amazing models and women. The team that put this all together has been amazing. I’m so excited.”
Her confidence on the runway reflected the same swagger that has defined her basketball career. Reese’s ability to dominate the court while commanding attention off it has made her one of the most recognizable athletes in the WNBA.
A statement of self-worth and a message to the league
Hours after her runway debut, Reese posted a bold message on X that stirred conversation among fans and fellow players. “I don’t work jobs,” she wrote. “I AM THE JOB.”
The post, short but pointed, reinforced the self-assured attitude that has become Reese’s signature.
It also came at the end of another impressive WNBA campaign in which she averaged 14.7 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. Her numbers helped her earn another All-Star nod, though the Sky once again fell short of making the playoffs.
Reese’s frustration with that outcome was clear before the season ended. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, she spoke candidly about her expectations for the team’s future and her desire to see major changes.
“I’m not settling for the same s**t we did this year,” Reese said. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a nonnegotiable for me. I’m willing and wanting to play with the best.
“And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason to make sure we attract the best of the best, because we can’t settle for what we have this year.”
