There is nothing like coming back home, and that is exactly how Angel Reese celebrated her return. The Chicago Sky star took a well-earned break that pulled her completely away from basketball. She is no stranger to criticism, whether it is about how she lives her life or how she sets her priorities. The spotlight has followed her closely, and the scrutiny has only intensified.

During the WNBA offseason, Reese stayed visible. Trips, shopping sprees, bikinis, and private jets filled her social media. For many critics, there seemed to be very little basketball in sight. Reese has always gone the extra mile in everything she does, and that exposure has consistently drawn mixed reactions.

The noise never really stops

Questions about her commitment surfaced again. Some argued she does not take the game seriously enough.Others labeled her play as mediocre or suggested she is overhyped. It is a familiar cycle for a player whose personality often becomes part of the headline.

But Reese’s career path tells a more complete story. She was selected as the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky after standing out at Louisiana State University. As a 6-foot-3 forward from LSU, she entered the league alongside teammate Kamilla Cardoso, who was taken third overall. Her résumé has never been built on hype alone.

Back where she belongs

Returning to the court with Rose BC in the Unrivaled league, Reese made an immediate impact. After scoring her first bucket, she expressed in raw fashion that she felt back where she belonged.

Reese had not originally signed to play in the league this season. She stepped in to fill a vacant roster spot after Aari McDonald was ruled out for the season with a right leg injury. In her debut for Rose BC, she delivered 13 points and eight rebounds, a solid and efficient performance that backed up the emotion of her return.

For someone often criticized for distractions, the numbers offered clarity. Basketball remains her foundation. It may not be the only space where she thrives, but it is clearly her comfort zone.

The offseason may bring opinions, but once the game starts, she answers in the only way that matters – on the court.
