Angel Reese shows her support for a former teammate of Caitlin Clark at Fever after a thoughtful Instagram post

DeWanna Bonner joined Indiana Fever as a free agent in February, but nine games later, she surprisingly requested her resignation for “personal reasons.”

Following her decision, which left a huge void and uncertainty in the Fever locker room, she signed with the team where she spent the first 11 years of her career, the Phoenix Mercury. Now, after an atypical year, she shared a reflection that a rival supported.

Bonner receives support from a Chicago Sky star

DeWanna’s addition to the Fever was intended to accelerate the team’s growth, bringing not only her talent but also her experience and leadership.

With rising stars such as Caitlin Clark, Lexie Hull, and Aliyah Boston, the idea of having someone of her reputation was ideal.

However, the 38-year-old veteran did not seem comfortable and requested a leave of absence, causing her to leave the team in June and return to Mercury, where she played from 2009-2016 and 2018-2019.

Her return to the team saw them reach the Playoffs finals, but they were defeated 4-0 by the Las Vegas Aces.

Now, taking advantage of the offseason and with much to reflect on, the two-time WNBA champion shared a post on her official Instagram account with her 91,600 followers.

Accompanying the 15 photos and videos that reviewed her year, Bonner wrote a lengthy reflection: “So much can change in a year,” she began. “This year tested me, stretched me, and reminded me what it means to stand tall as a woman, an athlete, and a force in my own right… I’m proud of the woman I’m becoming. I’m thankful for the people who see me, support me, and love me for me,” she said.

Fans quickly showed their support in the comments section: “Proud of you, DeWanna! Thank you for being an excellent example of how to show up for yourself and know your value!” commented one of them. “You are loved, keep being you legend,” said another. “So damn pretty and definitely in the history books. You deserve it all,” said a third. “You’re incredible. Thank you for showing us what a leader looks like!” added another follower.

However, the comment that stood out the most was from a former rival: Angel Reese. The Chicago Sky forward took her time and expressed her affection for DeWanna with these words: “You are the WOMAN we all inspire to be. From your craft to your motherhood to you just being a beautiful amazing human being. You always have a little sister in me,” she commented.

This gesture took fans by surprise given the sporting rivalry between the Fever and the Sky and, above all, between Caitlin Clark and Reese, in which Bonner played an important role during her time with the team. However, Angel’s comment shows that this enmity remains only on the court.

Meanwhile, DeWanna’s future is uncertain as her contract with the Phoenix Mercury ended with the 2025 season. Once the trade period opens on February 1, she will be an unrestricted free agent, so she will have a big decision to make about her future.
