Angel Reese sees no reason to panic as Chicago Sky finds its footing

Angel Reese delivered a commanding performance in the Chicago Sky’s recent 97-86 win over the Los Angeles Sparks, helping snap a three-game losing streak.

But her message after the game wasn’t just about the victory-it was a heartfelt appeal for understanding and patience as the team works through early-season struggles.

Reese, now in her second WNBA season, emphasized that much of the team is still adjusting to the professional level. With a 4-10 record and currently ranked 10th in the Eastern Conference, the Sky are clearly in a developmental phase.

“Give them some grace, give us some grace, and give Tyler and the staff grace,” Reese said postgame, referring to first-year head coach Tyler Marsh and her fellow teammates, many of whom are in their first or second seasons.

The 22-year-old forward has quickly become a vocal leader for Chicago, offering public support for the backcourt players who’ve received heavy criticism online. “We be seeing y’all on they [expletive] on Twitter,” she said. “Just let them hoop. It’s going to be a process.”

Despite the criticism, Reese’s on-court production speaks volumes. She finished Wednesday’s game with 18 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, and four steals-an all-around showcase in front of WNBA legend Lisa Leslie.

“She told me, ‘Continue to work. You’re a beast on the boards,'” Reese shared, expressing gratitude for Leslie’s mentorship and encouragement.

Head coach Tyler Marsh has taken a tough-love approach, which hasn’t gone unnoticed. “We’re tired of getting cussed out,” Reese admitted with a smile. “Not literally, but we had to be better in the post. We made the adjustments.”

Trusting the process: Building toward something bigger

Reese’s comments reflect a team still finding its rhythm. With rookie standouts like Kamilla Cardoso contributing 27 points in the win, and veterans like Ariel Atkins offering leadership and support, the Sky are beginning to click-even if inconsistently.

Atkins also defended Reese publicly, noting, “Her crown is heavy,” and reminding critics to keep the focus on basketball.

The team’s journey is far from over, and growing pains are inevitable. But Reese’s maturity and willingness to shoulder responsibility have made her a pillar for the Sky during this transitional phase.

She’s also made WNBA history already-becoming the fastest player to reach 150 rebounds and 50 assists in a season-proving she’s not just talking; she’s delivering.

As Reese summed it up: “Just trust the process.” The Sky may be rebuilding, but with emerging stars, a vocal leader, and a clear vision, their foundation is being laid-one game at a time.
