Angel Reese has never been one to step away from who she is, even when obstacles appear.
Although her attempt to trademark the Barbie inspired nickname was denied due to conflicts with Mattel’s intellectual property, Reese has made it clear that the idea behind it was never about paperwork.
Originally known as “Bayou Barbie” during her time at LSU, the nickname evolved into “Chi Barbie” once she joined the Chicago Sky.
Rather than distancing herself from it, Reese has leaned in even further.
Her latest Instagram move reflects that mindset, as she launched a new archive account alongside a striking photo of herself dressed in a tiger fur coat while sitting in a limousine.
For Reese, Barbie represents far more than fashion. It has become a symbol of femininity, ambition, and freedom of expression.
She has often spoken about how that image helped her imagine a future without limits.
“This is for the girls that look like me, they said that they can’t do this,” Reese said after LSU’s 2023 national title win over Iowa.
“Y’all told me to calm it down. Y’all criticize me all year. I’m her, I am telling you I’m the Bayou Barbie, period.”
That moment also fueled a rivalry that defined a new era of women’s basketball, bringing both praise and criticism Reese never shied away from.
Fashion, identity, and breaking the mold
Reese‘s influence has extended well beyond the hardwood. In October 2025, she became the first professional athlete to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, further cementing her place as a fashion trailblazer.
Her bold courtside looks, including her viral pink “BARBIE WORLD” outfit, have become part of her public identity.
Fans were quick to react to her new archive account. “Loving it here already,” one comment read, while another simply said, “okay miss barbie.”
Reese has explained that Barbie, to her, represents versatility and ambition.
“I call myself the Barbie is a doctor one day, a trainer one day, a nurse one day,” Reese said. “Being able to be a jack of all trades, you don’t have to do just one thing.”
That outlook resonates with many. “I’m here [crown emoji] Queen,” another fan wrote, echoing the sense of empowerment Reese inspires.
Now an official Barbie ambassador and set to appear at Mattel’s Barbie Dream Fest in March, Reese continues to redefine what the label means.
Whether on the court or in the fashion world, she remains committed to being herself, unapologetically and visibly so.
