Angel Reese outshines Caitlin Clark in unexpected road stat

In a surprising twist to the 2025 WNBA season, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has outperformed Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark in an unexpected statistical category: road three-point shooting.

While Clark has long been known for her prolific three-point shooting, especially during her college career, Reese’s performance on the road has outshone her this season in this particular area.

Caitlin Clark made her name as one of the most dangerous shooters in college basketball history, setting the NCAA Division I record for most three-pointers made in a career. Her ability to effortlessly knock down deep shots, often from well beyond the arc, was one of her signature traits.

However, her transition to the WNBA has not been as smooth, especially when it comes to her three-point shooting. In her rookie season, Clark shot a solid 34.4% from beyond the arc. But in 2025, that percentage has plummeted to 27.9%, with one of the most notable struggles occurring on the road.

Clark has made only two three-pointers in 28 attempts during away games this season, resulting in an abysmal 7.1% shooting from three-point range. This sharp drop in shooting performance on the road contrasts significantly with her home games, where she has been far more effective, shooting 44% from beyond the arc.

This discrepancy points to a clear challenge in finding consistency away from home, something that has affected her overall efficiency.

Angel Reese’s unexpected edge

In contrast, Angel Reese has quietly found success from long-range this season, despite not being known for her three-point shooting ability. While her overall shooting percentage from three-point range stands at 21.1%, Reese has been more successful on the road compared to Clark.

Reese has made three three-pointers in 15 attempts away from home, giving her a 20% shooting percentage from beyond the arc. While these numbers are still modest, they are notable given that Reese is primarily known for her dominance in the paint, where she excels in rebounding and scoring inside.

Reese’s ability to knock down more triples on the road than Clark, even with a lower overall shooting percentage, adds a new layer to her game. It shows that her skill set is expanding beyond the paint and making her a more versatile player, capable of contributing from all areas of the court.

Factors influencing Clark’s struggles

Clark’s struggles can likely be attributed to several factors. A lingering groin injury has limited her appearances, and she has only played 13 games this season, significantly fewer than Reese, who has played in 21.

Additionally, Clark’s struggles could be linked to the physical and intense defensive pressure she has faced in many of her road games, which may be affecting her shot selection and overall confidence.

Despite her shooting woes, Clark remains a significant contributor for the Fever, averaging 16.9 points and 8.6 assists per game. Her playmaking ability and scoring presence are still vital to her team’s success, but her inability to find her shooting rhythm has raised questions about her long-term consistency from deep.

As the season continues, both Clark and Reese will aim to refine their skills. For Clark, getting healthy and regaining her sharp shooting touch will be key to her success, especially on the road. On the other hand, Reese will likely look to continue building her outside shooting confidence, adding another dimension to her already dominant game inside.

This unexpected statistical comparison between the two players has become an intriguing storyline of the season, highlighting the evolving dynamics between these two young stars in the WNBA. Fans will be watching closely to see how both players adjust and develop as the season unfolds.
