Angel Reese makes the leap to Hollywood: The Sky star makes her big screen debut alongside Idris Elba

Angel Reese is adding a new dimension to her growing profile, stepping into the world of cinema while continuing to build her reputation on the basketball court as the Chicago Sky forward makes her big screen debut in A House of Dynamite.

Starring alongside Idris Elba in the nuclear disaster thriller, one of the most-recognizable names in the WNBA also appears next to Rebecca Ferguson, and Anthony Ramos in a cameo role.

Describe as memorable, according to The Hollywood Reporter she appears in a scene alongside Elba‘s character, the President of the United States, where the two shoot hoops and exchange a short dialogue.

The moment represents a striking crossover for the 22-year-old, whose rise in basketball has now expanded into entertainment.

The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival earlier this week and was met with a strong reception, including an 11-minute standing ovation inside the Sala Grande theater.

“Welp the cat is out of the bag,” Reese wrote on X.com, formerly Twitter, after news of her cameo broke as she acknowledged her involvement publicly for the first time.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Anthony Byrne, A House of Dynamite is scheduled for a staggered release-arriving in U.S. theaters on October 10, and launching on Netflix on October 24.

The project marks Reese‘s first venture into acting and reflects the broader trend of athletes branching into film and media.

Reese turns attention to conclusion of sophomore WNBA season

For Reese, the cameo comes amid a busy professional year. Now in her second WNBA season, she has continued to establish herself as one of the league’s premier rebounders.

Despite Chicago’s struggles in 2025, the Sky sit at 9-30 and are already out of playoff contention, she remains a standout performer and leads her team with 14.6 points per game.

She is also currently topping the league in rebounds at 12.6 per contest, a category she also dominated during her rookie year when she set the single-season record; showing her proficiency around the basket.

Chicago’s regular season concludes next week with a matchup against the New York Liberty. While the Sky‘s year ends without a postseason, Reese’s individual success has kept her firmly in the spotlight. Off the court, her profile is expected to grow further.

Her offseason plans may once again include Unrivaled, the women’s basketball league where she earned Defensive Player of the Year honors during its inaugural season. However, her commitments may also begin to include more opportunities in film and media following her Hollywood debut.

As Reese continues to develop her career, she stands at the intersection of sports and entertainment, a rising basketball star who is quickly becoming a cultural figure beyond the WNBA.

With A House of Dynamite set to reach a global audience this fall, her journey now extends from the hardwood to the big screen – let’s see if she can out-perform the NFL’s Travis Kelce‘s cameo in Happy Gilmore 2.
