Angel Reese is on the verge of a suspension that will prevent her from playing if she does not change her attitude

The 2025 WNBA campaign has been anything but smooth for Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky.

Following a tough 88-75 loss to the Minnesota Lynx, the Sky dropped to 7-14 on the year, continuing a downward spiral that has left fans and analysts wondering how the team can regroup after the All-Star break.

Adding to their challenges, Reese will not be available for Chicago‘s next game. The standout forward has been ruled out due to a leg injury, sidelining her for the Sky’s final matchup before the break against Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream on Wednesday.

This latest development puts a damper on what has otherwise been a productive sophomore season for Reese, who remains one of the league’s most dominant rebounders.

Through 21 games, she’s averaging 14.0 points per game while shooting 44.6 percent from the field. More impressively, she leads the entire WNBA with 12.6 rebounds per game, continuing her reputation as a relentless force on the glass.

Her outstanding performance has earned her a second straight All-Star selection, even amid Chicago‘s struggles in the standings. Reese will soon suit up for Napheesa Collier‘s All-Star squad when they face off against Caitlin Clark‘s team at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Saturday night.

Technical fouls piling up as WNBA disciplinary threshold nears

While Reese‘s stats tell the story of a rising star, her season has also been defined by mounting frustrations on the court. According to Fox Sports, the 22-year-old currently leads the WNBA in technical fouls with six, which is more than any other player this season.

Her latest came in a heated moment on July 8, when she and Washington Mystics center Shakira Austin were hit with double technicals during a physical exchange.

The accumulation of technical fouls could soon cost Reese more than just fines. Under updated league rules, following the WNBA’s move from a 40-game season to a 44-game schedule, the automatic one-game suspension now comes after a player’s eighth technical foul, as reported by Indy Star’s Chloe Peterson. Reese is currently just two away from hitting that mark.

So far, Reese has racked up $1,800 in fines tied to her behavior on the court. The league levied $200 fines for each of her first three technicals, followed by $400 apiece for the next three.

She’s not alone, either. Austin, who already has five technicals in just 18 games, is close behind, while Allisha Gray of the Dream has picked up four. But Reese remains on the hottest seat when it comes to looming discipline.

Chicago’s final pre-All-Star game tips off at Noon ET on Wednesday at Wintrust Arena. Reese will not be available, but she’s expected to participate in All-Star festivities this weekend alongside some of the WNBA’s most recognizable names.
