Angel Reese has been lighting up the WNBA this season, even if her team, the Chicago Sky, hasn’t followed suit. With a 5-12 record, the Sky currently hold the second-worst spot in the league as the season approaches its halfway point. It’s been a rough ride for the team, but not for Reese. She’s shining bright. Last year’s rookie class, which included Caitlin Clark and Reese, brought the hype: Clark with her flashy assists and Reese with her tenacity on the boards. Clark has been sidelined by injuries this year, playing in only nine of 18 games, yet she’s still co-captaining the All-Star game with Napheesa Collier.
Reese’s Fashion Game Turns Heads
Meanwhile, Reese earned a reserve spot in the All-Star lineup and continues to dominate the paint, racking up rebounds and breaking records effortlessly. Her individual brilliance is a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing season for Chicago.
Reese isn’t just a beast on the court; she’s also a trendsetter off it. Before the Sky’s latest loss to the best team so far this season, Minnesota Lynx, she posted a series of photos on social media that had everyone talking. One picture stood out: Reese in a brown one-piece bikini with cutout accents, showing off her chiseled abs and exuding confidence.
She knows it’s a bold move, and she’s not shy about giving her fans a peek into her life. Critics, though, love to pounce. They criticize her mistakes on the court, her easy shots, and her constant social media activity. They question whether her 10 million followers matter more than her jump shot.
But that’s just Reese being Reese-she’s been this way since her LSU days. Her podcast, Unapologetically, is proof of that. It’s a space where she connects with fans and fires back at the naysayers. She did just that right after the Lynx defeat when she made history by becoming the first WNBA player to grab 15 or more rebounds in five consecutive games. Talk about a mic drop!
Rebounding Royalty: Reese’s Historic Streak
Let’s get to the good stuff: Reese’s rebounding numbers are unreal. Over her last five games, she’s averaging 17 points, 17.4 rebounds, and five assists-leaps above her season averages of 12.4 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. She’s the only player in the league pulling down double-digit boards per game, outpacing even A’ja Wilson’s 9.6.
At this rate, she might just be the first to hit 500 rebounds in a single season. In 17 games, she’s racked up 11 double-doubles and a triple-double, only dipping below 10 rebounds four times-and even then, she grabbed nine in three of those.
Since June 22, she’s been a rebounding whirlwind, hauling in 16 to 19 boards every night, including a 16-point, 17-rebound effort in that 80-75 loss to Minnesota. Think of it this way: Clark owns assists, Reese owns rebounds. Last year, Clark set an assist record as a rookie, while Reese surpassed Sylvia Fowles’ rebounding mark but was later surpassed by last year’s MVP A’Ja Wilson due to injury. Now, she’s back and unstoppable.
What’s next? The Sky face back-to-back tests against the Mystics and Paige Bueckers’ Dallas Wings. Can Reese push her 15+ rebound streak to six or seven games? Heck, why not keep the double-doubles rolling and hit 10 in a row before the All-Star break? She thrives in the spotlight-and the criticism-so don’t bet against her grabbing every board in sight.
