Angel Reese hints at Chicago Sky exit after disappointing season

Angel Reese has suggested that the Chicago Sky could look very different next year after a frustrating campaign that has already seen them eliminated from playoff contention. Injuries, inconsistency, and a string of poor results have left the Sky near the foot of the standings, and Reese acknowledged that the roster may not remain intact once the offseason arrives.

Speaking after the team’s latest loss, Reese admitted she is focused on making the most of the final stretch of the season.

“Just to play hard as hell these last nine games,” Reese said. “We might not all be together next year, teammates could leave or trades could happen. That’s part of the game. So I just want to enjoy each other because I really did enjoy this team this year.”

The Sky suffered their 27th defeat of the season on Saturday, falling 94-84 to the Connecticut Sun. The result dropped them to 12th in the WNBA standings and left them only half a game ahead of the struggling Dallas Wings, who sit in 13th place with a 9-28 record. The fight to avoid finishing at the very bottom of the table is now one of the few motivations left for Chicago heading into the final weeks.

Angel Reese continues to deliver despite defeats

The defeat to Connecticut once again highlighted a recurring theme: Reese producing strong numbers while her team fails to convert them into wins. Against the Sun, she posted 11 points and 11 rebounds in 31 minutes, recording yet another double-double. She also dished out five assists while committing only two turnovers, showing her impact extends beyond scoring and rebounding.

It was an efficient outing, but as has been the case throughout the season, her individual success could not prevent Chicago from slipping further behind.

Reese has been one of the few bright spots for the Sky, becoming a double-double machine in her rookie year and earning early All-Star recognition. However, her comments underline the uncertainty surrounding the franchise’s direction. With the roster already underperforming and free agency looming, significant changes may be inevitable.

For now, Reese is determined to finish the season on a competitive note, even if the playoffs are out of reach. The Sky still have several games left to prove they can respond with pride, but their young star has made it clear she understands the reality of professional basketball: teams evolve quickly, and continuity is never guaranteed.

Whether she remains at the center of Chicago’s rebuild or considers other options down the road, Angel Reese‘s future will be one of the biggest storylines to watch once the Sky‘s disappointing season officially comes to an end.
