WNBA star Angel Reese just took a loss off the court-and it’s one that hit her right in the feels. The Chicago Sky forward looked visibly bummed online Tuesday after learning that Poppa’s House, one of her favorite TV shows, was axed by CBS after just one season.
The comedy, which starred Damon Wayans and his real-life son Damon Wayans Jr., had premiered in October 2024 to mostly positive reviews and a promising 18-episode run. But it wasn’t enough to secure a second season.
Reese’s reaction was simple but loud-a sad face emoji posted on X (formerly Twitter)-and fans immediately knew what she was talking about. “We feel you, Angel,” one person replied. “CBS fumbled with this one.”
Wayans regretted the cancellation of the show
Poppa’s House followed Wayans as a talk show host navigating his unexpected retirement, only to have his peace disturbed when his newly divorced son, Wayans Jr., moves back in. Despite strong chemistry between the father-son duo and a warm reception from viewers, CBS officially pulled the plug this week.
Damon Wayans took to Instagram with a heartfelt farewell message: “Creating Poppa’s House was such a beautiful journey… Though it’s coming to a close, I’m walking away with deep gratitude, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories.”
He also gave a special shoutout to his son, writing, “Working beside you has been one of the greatest joys of my life.”
Angel was heartbroken
Reese, known for her fiery presence on the court, has also shown fans her softer, more relatable side off it-especially when it comes to winding down with a good TV show. And her reaction echoed the disappointment of countless viewers now wondering what went wrong.
As the curtain falls on Poppa’s House, Reese’s reaction best reflects the viewers’ battered feelings.
