Angel Reese faced another difficult night on the court as her team fell to the Seattle Storm, extending their losing streak in the closing stretch of the WNBA regular season as critics blame the youngster for the loss.
Despite Reese‘s personal effort, the Sky could not overcome turnovers, missed opportunities, and a disciplined Seattle defense, underscoring the challenges the team faces as their playoff hopes dwindle.
The defeat comes after the 23-year-old has expressed determination following the Sky‘s official elimination from postseason contention but couldn’t find the points needed on the night to keep them in the fight.
Although she recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, a Seattle broadcaster Dick Fain criticized some of Reese’s decisions during the game, pointing to repeated mistakes on the offensive end.
“Angel Reese loves those missed shots,” Fain said over the airwaves. “Those offensive board second opportunities.
“And if Chicago’s gonna beat you, that’s how they are going to do it. They’re going to put it up, they gonna miss.
“They’re going to put it up again, they might miss again, but eventually, they’re going to get a bucket.”
From the outset, the Chi Barbie was forced into a heavier ball-handling role, almost operating as a point-forward; and Seattle’s defense capitalized, forcing her into six turnovers, the highest on her team.
The Chicago Sky collectively committed 19 turnovers, compared with the Storm’s 13, and struggled to match Seattle in steals and although Chicago shot a respectable 44.3% from the field, they had poor efficiency in other areas such as free throws (14-for-25) and three pointers (1-9).
The Sky never held a lead during the game, and each missed chance compounded the defeat as their outside 2025 WNBA Playoff hopes came to a close in Washington on Saturday.
Reese scores big career moment despite Seattle loss
Despite the difficult outing, Reese has had reasons for optimism off the court as she scored a big moment in the developing career of the second-year professional basketballer.
In a recent Instagram Story, she reflected on her upcoming appearance as the cover athlete for NBA 2K26, the official video game of the sport, and the launch of her first signature shoe.
“Never taking this moment for granted,” Reese said. “But so grateful.
“Having an NBA 2K cover and my first ever signature shoe on the cover in the city I play in! Wow.”
She continued: “I’m so blessed to be honored. I was just super excited…just trying to be the first of many and have many young kids and young women look up to me and know that they can do the same things I’m doing.
“The sky is the limit, even bigger than that, as long as you trust whatever you want and never let anybody put limitations on who you can be and what you can be.”
