The WNBA‘s latest All-Star Game announcement may have stirred fresh controversy and reignited the rivalry narrative between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, but the latter shrugs it off as she makes history on the court with the Chicago Sky.
Despite a dominant stretch of performances, Reese was not selected as one of the captains for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game as fans voted for the Indiana Fever star and the Minnesota Lynx’s Napheesa Collier instead.
Yet Reese showed no signs of any hang ups as she continues to deliver historic numbers for her team by recording her fourth consecutive game with at least 15 rebounds in the Sky’s 92-85 win over the LA Sparks at Crypto.com Arena.
Her performance on Sunday, June 29 set a new WNBA record for most consecutive 15-rebound games, a mark the 23-year-old previously held herself, picked up in her rookie campaign in the sport.
Her recent tear began with 19 rebounds against the Atlanta Dream on June 22, followed by 17 boards in another game against the Sparks on June 24, and 18 against the Golden State Valkyries on June 27.
And she has been a force inside the paint, further cementing her place as one of the most dominant rebounders the league has seen in years, proving that although overlooked in the All-Star captain selection, Reese’s impact is undeniable.
Reese has not directly commented on the All-Star selection, but she did celebrate the victory over the Sparks online with a short but powerful message on X.com (formerly Twitter) reading, “DUBS IN THE CHATTTT.”
That win marked Chicago’s fifth of the season (5-11), and though the Sky remain below .500, they have shown signs of momentum to take into their upcoming clashes with the Washington Mystics, Las Vegas Aces, and Golden State Valkyries – all winnable games.
Beyond her current rebounding streak, Reese has also set all-time records for the most rebounds in a single WNBA season (446), most offensive rebounds in one year (172), and is the only player in league history to grab 20+ rebounds in consecutive games.
The Sky are still in the playoff picture – due in large part to Reese’s efforts, even if she was not selected by fans as an All-Star captain by the fans at home.
Fans hit out at WNBA All-Star snub for Reese
The All-Star Game snub has not gone unnoticed by fans as many took to social media to express frustration that Reese, averaging 11.7 points and 12.3 rebounds, was not named a captain.
Many also linked the snub to her widely publicized rivalry with Clark, dating back to their college matchups and fuelled further by the media spotlight in their rookie WNBA seasons.
A fan commented on X.com, “Caitlin Clark ducking smoke while Angel Reese setting records man FAWK.”
