The WNBA All-Star weekend began with a vibrant kickoff at the Indiana Convention Center on Thursday, where the orange carpet event served as a prelude to Saturday’s highly anticipated game and featured several stars of the league.
Though some notable names like Caitlin Clark were absent from the court due to injury, many of the league’s brightest talents, such as Angel Reese and A’ja Wilson, graced the opening festivities in standout fashion.
Joining Reese and Wilson were names such as Napheesa Collier, Paige Bueckers, and Lexie Hull, who all made distinct statements with their attire, showcasing the league’s growing emphasis on style and individuality during marquee events.
Clark, nursing a groin injury, arrived late but was still greeted with enthusiasm from fans eager to catch a glimpse of the league’s top vote-getter as her participation in the event remains questionable.
Despite the fierce competition on the hardwood, Thursday’s event offered another form of rivalry through one measured in wardrobes. While each player brought their unique energy, Reese and Bueckers emerged as the night’s most talked-about fashion figures for entirely different reasons.
Bueckers may have chosen one of the most understated ensembles, but the effect was striking nonetheless, as the Dallas Wings rookie wore a cozy, cardigan-like top, setting her apart from the evening’s predominantly formal aesthetic.
The decision to go against the grain highlighted her confidence and she even clarified to reporters that her partner, Azzi Fudd, had no involvement in her choice. This was all from the 24-year-old.
But it was Reese who stole the spotlight with a full-length leopard-print outfit that elevated her already commanding 6-foot-4 frame. High heels only added to her imposing presence, positioning her as the undisputed queen of the orange carpet.
Playing for the Chicago Sky during the regular season, this marks Reese‘s second All-Star selection, and she will suit up for Team Collier.
Collier herself, of the Minnesota Lynx, donned a see-through black cropped top paired with matching pants. Whilst Wilson (Las Vegas Aces) opted for a bold maroon outfit by the designer, Di Petsa, combined with a daring thigh-high slit.
And Lexie Hull (Indiana Fever) cannot be forgotten either. The star arrived in an all-black ensemble featuring a cropped top and an ankle-length skirt. Although she won’t play, she still managed to catch the eyes in her city.
