Angel Reese does not sugarcoat the situation at Chicago Sky and reveals clues about her future: “I’d like to be here for my career, but…”

Angel Reese is preparing to bitterly close her second season in the WNBA and the Chicago Sky, after her team was virtually eliminated from playoff contention for the second consecutive year.

With a 9-30 record and second to last in the standings, ahead of only the Dallas Wings, the 23-year-old forward is already thinking about 2026 and wants to reform with the Sky.

Reese wants to play for a better team

After the numerous defeats (several of them, consecutive and abundant) the Chicago star made some comments about his future in a revealing interview.

During the talk, she didn’t sugarcoat Sky’s situation but also didn’t take aim at any players or head coach Tyler Marsh, but merely said that, if she decides to stay, she’ll need some changes.

“We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me,” Reese said per Julie Poe of Chicago Tribune.

“I am very vocal about what we need and what I want. I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously, I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me,” Angel said. “But while I am here, I’m going to try to stay open-minded about what I have here and maximize that as much as I can.”

Reese is currently averaging 14.4 points, 12.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game, but despite the forward’s strong numbers, the team is going in the opposite direction. On the other hand, the loss of Courtney Vandersloot for the rest of the season in June did not help the team’s future either.

However, this winter, several players will enter free agency, so the team could take action and follow the advice of the two-time All-Star.

No doubt, it will be interesting to see if the offseason will be really important for the future of Angel and Sky.
