Angel Reese, star forward for the Chicago Sky, took a meaningful detour before her primetime matchup against the New York Liberty: her younger brother Julian Reese graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Human Development. Angel, never one to miss a family milestone, showed up to support him in full sisterly pride, even with the spotlight of a major WNBA game looming just hours away.

Angel posted a touching photo of Julian in his cap and gown on social media, further cementing the duo’s close bond. The moment was more than just a celebration of academic success-it was a testament to the fierce loyalty the Reese family shares, even under the glare of national attention.

From childhood rivals to collegiate standouts

Angel and Julian’s connection goes beyond social media posts and public events. Their dynamic began long before either of them made headlines. Raised in a tough neighborhood, the two developed a competitive spirit early on, constantly challenging each other on the basketball court outside their home. That drive would shape them both into elite athletes.

Julian, a 6’9″ forward, capped off his college career with over 1,000 rebounds and 1,400 points, a remarkable achievement that includes standout performances during March Madness.

With averages of 15 points and 9 rebounds in the postseason, his physical presence and poise drew praise from fans and scouts alike.

What’s next for Julian Reese?

After a strong senior year and a solid partnership with center Derik Queen, Julian has entered the NCAA transfer portal, just in case eligibility rules shift. Though he wasn’t invited to the NBA Draft Combine, he’s still in the running to be selected in the second round. Scouts admire his size and defensive instincts, making him a viable sleeper pick in the upcoming draft.

Angel keeps rising, no matter the noise

Meanwhile, Angel Reese continues to juggle the pressures of professional basketball with unwavering grace. Even amid league investigations into hate speech directed at her during the season opener, she has remained composed and focused.

Tonight’s game against the Liberty is more than a test of her team’s resilience, it’s a moment for Angel to prove, once again, that she shines brightest under pressure. But win or lose, she’s already scored big by showing up where it matters most: for family.
