Angel Reese and Tyler Marsh give fans hope after former LSU woman’s penalty against Sun, which would cause her to miss Sky-Fever

The Chicago Sky‘s needed crushing 88-64 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday was marred by a suspension of its star forward.

Angel Reese received her eighth technical foul in the second quarter of the game after she had contact with the head of one of her opponents, Aaliyah Edwards, while jockeying for position and gaining a rebound. This could spell trouble for the team heading into the game against Indiana Fever.

Reese could miss Sky-Fever

This new foul by the two-time All-Star results in an automatic one-game suspension, that being the game on Friday, September 5 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

This matchup has gained relevance by seeing the stars of both teams face off, Reese vs. Caitlin Clark. However, it would appear that neither will be able to make the game, although there is hope for the former LSU star.

CC has been dealing with a lingering groin injury that has caused her to appear in only 13 games for Indiana and her return to the court is not definite. On the other hand, Angel could have a chance to play, if the league decides to overturn the technical foul retroactively, and she spoke to the press after the Sun win:

“[The ref] said that it was either going to be a tech or a flagrant and I didn’t know how that’s determined… And he said it’s too late to be a flagrant…We’re going to go back to the league and talk about it,” Reese said, via Moreau Sports Media Prod Co. on X.

His coach, Tyler Marsh was also not happy with the situation and argued with the referees during the game, “They told me it was an after the whistle dead ball foul and they had the choice to go to a technical or a flagrant, I asked them why not the flagrant..and I got no answer,” he said.

Had that been the case and received a flagrant, Reese should not miss the game against Fever, so Marsh also stated that they will challenge the technical foul before the WNBA.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Sky coach’s promise will be enforced and if Reese will be able to face Indiana in a game that is shaping up to be a promising matchup.
