Weeks after Angel Reese casually mentioned during a TikTok Live that she and Paige Bueckers had “something really big” on the horizon, the moment that fans had been trying to decipher suddenly gained clarity.
Reese‘s, the iconic peanut-butter-cup brand that has long played with pop-culture crossovers, began dropping hints that point directly toward the two stars joining forces.
A social media breadcrumb trail gets people talking
The first clue was subtle enough that some wondered if it was a typo. Reese’s changed its Instagram bio to read, “The official Instagram Paige of Reese,” a playful twist that instantly made sense to anyone who follows Bueckers.
Then came a more direct nudge: “Their numbers may be 5, but together, this duo’s a solid 10… coming soon.” Both athletes wear No. 5, and from that moment on, speculation turned into near certainty.
This would not be Reese‘s first venture into the WNBA space. Last season, the company developed a fan-inspired apparel collection dedicated to Angel Reese and her fast-growing “Reese’s Pieces” community. The designs leaned into her on-court identity, her love of fashion and the brand’s signature color scheme.
“The fans really made this happen,” Reese said at the time. “This collection is for my Reese’s Pieces – who’ve been with me every step of the way, and the design elements bring together things that I love -basketball, style, and of course, Reese’s!”
Bueckers, meanwhile, is hardly new to working with major snack brands. Earlier this year, she appeared in an Oreo Cakesters campaign alongside her former teammate Azzi Fudd. The ad played up their real-life chemistry, blending light humor with the kind of youthful energy Oreo uses to reach its audience.
A project tying all of these threads together – Oreo, Reese’s, Reese and Bueckers – would instantly become one of the most notable marketing collaborations involving WNBA athletes to date.
The timing of this tease lands at a sensitive moment for the league. The WNBA and WNBPA recently agreed to stretch their ongoing CBA talks into early January after their previous extension expired November 30.
Either side can end the extension with 48 hours’ notice, and early reactions to the league’s latest revenue-sharing proposal suggest that the players remain unconvinced by the numbers.
