Andy Reid sees key factor to improve after Chiefs’ preseason loss to Cardinals

The Chiefs lost to the Cardinals 20-17 last Saturday, leaving Kansas City head coach Andy Reid unhappy with his team’s performance. The starters got some reps, while the rookies and players on the roster bubble had a chance to play and showcase their talent.

However, it was when the young players came in that the team began to struggle. Before we get into that topic, it’s important to remember that while Kansas City returns in 2025 to seek revenge for the Super Bowl loss to the Eagles, Arizona will be trying to make the playoffs, something they failed to achieve in 2024.

Key point Andy Reid needs to improve for the Chiefs

After his team’s loss, Andy Reid appeared before the media and highlighted one of the most important factors to improve, the one he believed was the cause of the Chiefs’ defeat. “It was too careless, too many penalties for dropping back when we shouldn’t have been attacking and forcing forward with the penalties we had on defense,” he said.

However, Reid stated that they need to address that. Overall, it was a good first strike for the defending AFC champions, but Reid will want a better performance against the Seattle Seahawks in the next preseason game, and he’ll also want far fewer penalties.

Upcoming NFL preseason games

This preseason serves as a warm-up for the 2025-2026 NFL season, which will arrive in a matter of weeks. It is a key time for franchises, who take advantage of these months to make roster adjustments, test strategies, and evaluate their strongest players.
