Andy Reid makes the first move to replace Xavier Worthy: Brings in an old acquaintance of the Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are already reshuffling their wide receiver unit just one week into the new season. Rookie Xavier Worthy, who dislocated his shoulder on the third offensive snap of the Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, is now undergoing daily evaluations.

Head coach Andy Reid confirmed the team is monitoring his recovery closely but stopped short of saying whether the rookie will remain on the 53-man roster or head to injured reserve.

Worthy’s setback adds to a growing list of absences. Fellow rookie Jalen Royals missed the opener with knee tendinitis, and Rashee Rice still has five games left on his suspension.

With depth quickly becoming an issue, Kansas City has decided to bring back a player who knows the system.

Hal Presley Jr. returns to Kansas City

According to KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson, the Chiefs re-signed wide receiver Hal Presley Jr. to their practice squad on Tuesday. Presley, a Baylor product, went undrafted in April before signing briefly with the Buffalo Bills.

He was released after rookie minicamp, but Kansas City picked him up ahead of training camp and kept him through the preseason.

At Baylor, Presley developed into a steady contributor with 81 receptions, 1,048 yards, and seven touchdowns across 39 appearances. He overlapped in Waco with current Chiefs receiver Tyquan Thornton, giving him a connection to the locker room even before joining Kansas City.

Practical move, not a flashy one

The addition of Presley won’t generate the same buzz as a trade for a veteran pass catcher, but it does give the Chiefs another option while their depth chart stabilizes.

Kansas City entered the season with seven wideouts on the active roster and only one on the practice squad – undrafted rookie Jimmy Holiday, who impressed as both a receiver and return man during preseason.

Bringing Presley back ensures the coaching staff has enough players to run a functional scout team while also offering a potential depth piece if injuries linger. His experience in the offense makes him a smoother fit than an outside addition at this point in the season.
