Andy Reid erases the Chiefs’ latest defeat to deliver the best news that will allow Patrick Mahomes to lead the best team

The Kansas City Chiefs fell 27-29 to the Chicago Bears on a last-second touchdown, adding another blemish to an 0-3 exhibition record. But inside Arrowhead, there’s calm confidence and it starts with Andy Reid.

After the game, the longtime Chiefs head coach delivered an update that spoke louder than any scoreline.

“Andy Reid just said there was no injuries,” reported Brad Hanson Productions, pairing the quote with a celebratory Will Ferrell “Yay!” gif.

Mahomes and the starters silence early concerns

Despite the final score, Kansas City’s first-half performance told a different story. Patrick Mahomes orchestrated three consecutive scoring drives, building a 17-3 lead before the starters were pulled. He looked sharp and composed, completing 8 of 13 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown.

The highlight of the night came when Mahomes launched a perfect 58-yard strike to speedster Tyquan Thornton, connecting on a deep ball that Chiefs fans had been craving. It was more than just a big play-it was a reminder that Kansas City’s offense still has explosive layers left to unlock.

Equally important, the much-scrutinized offensive line showed improvement. Rookie left guard Kingsley Suamataia, who struggled in the previous preseason outing, held his own against Chicago’s defensive front. Protection held, lanes opened, and Mahomes had time to showcase his creativity.

Depth and health are Kansas City’s real wins

While the Chiefs‘ backups struggled to hold the lead, there’s a growing sense that the team’s depth will play a crucial role in their bid for another championship. Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach have spent the offseason reshaping key areas, and the roster looks better balanced than in recent years.

Reid‘s calm demeanor reflects his belief in the foundation Kansas City has built. A winless preseason isn’t ideal, but the starters have performed when called upon, and no major injuries have been reported. That combination gives the Chiefs every reason to approach Week 1 with quiet confidence.

Next up, the real games begin. And if the first-team offense’s efficiency carries over, the Chiefs could be primed for yet another deep postseason run.
