The Kansas City Chiefs endured a challenging outing in their Week 2 preseason matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, meaning they could turn to Patrick Mahomes in a bid to get momentum going before the NFL campaign begins.

Despite entering the game with a clean injury report, the Chiefs fell 33-16, exposing vulnerabilities among their reserves and leaving the organization with new health concerns.

Andy Reid confirmed that five players sustained injuries during the contest, including their rookie defensive back, Nohl Williams, signaling early caution as the team prepares for the regular season in September.

While the loss was disappointing, there is a silver lining for Chiefs fans. Reid indicated that the team’s starters, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, are expected to see action in the upcoming preseason game against the Chicago Bears.

“The one’s are going to get some time against the Bears,” Reid confirmed during a radio broadcast, emphasizing that giving the starters reps was always part of the plan before they turn their eyes to the 2025/26 campaign.

Mahomes has only had limited opportunities in the preseason, appearing for three snaps in the opener against the Arizona Cardinals; which included a one-yard touchdown pass to Jason Brownlee, following a fumble recovery.

“Hopefully [it will be after this week],” Patrick told Up & Adams of playing in preseason. “We’ll see.

“I always let Coach Reid make the decisions, but I’ll be out there at some point in this preseason and hopefully get a couple more drives.”

The quarterback stressed that while the situation was slightly disappointing, the team’s early turnover and scoring drive provided a morale boost, and he remains eager to gain additional preseason reps.

Chiefs hit with injuries vs Seahawks

However, during the Seahawks matchup, the Chiefs‘ reserves struggled to generate offense as Seattle’s defense limited Kansas City to just three points in the second half. A familiar story to the last campaign.

On the other front, Drew Lock produced a commanding performance at quarterback for the Washington-based team with 129 yards and two touchdowns, before handing over to Sam Darnold and Jalen Milroe.

In addition to offensive struggles, the Chiefs were forced to contend with several injuries as Williams entered concussion protocol during the contest, though the extent of his condition has not yet been disclosed.

Whilst the team’s defensive end, Felix Anudike-Uzomah, along with the veterans, Mike Edwards, Jack Cochrane, and Nazeeh Johnson, also exited with injuries. According to Chiefs Senior Team Reporter Matt McMullen, evaluations are ongoing, and specific return timelines remain uncertain.

These players were key contributors during Kansas City’s Super Bowl LIX campaign, making their health critical as the team looks to start the 2025 season on a strong footing.

Despite the early preseason setbacks, Reid remains focused on preparation and player management with the regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo approaching.
