Amid Jerry Jones’ criticism of Dak Prescott’s injuries and performance, Joe Milton praises his teammate’s commitment to the team

The Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback, one of the highest-paid players in the league, for some, without justification, has still delivered plenty of wins in past seasons. In 2023, for instance, he led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes. Yet once again, nothing came of it for the team. They reached the postseason, but as in recent years, it was one-and-done.

This week, controversial Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made headlines with pointed remarks suggesting Prescott hasn’t met the franchise’s expectations. In response, the quarterback simply said:

I have the proof in my actions, in the hours I put in and my preparation habits.

With that, Prescott emphasized his relentless work ethic to lead the team toward more victories and postseason success, though last year’s campaign collapsed amid his injuries.

Teammates admire Prescott’s dedication

Rookie quarterback Joe Milton, drafted by the Cowboys this past April, immediately noticed Prescott’s professionalism and commitment. Milton highlighted how Prescott is always the first to arrive at practice and the last to leave.

Prescott must stay healthy if he wants to stage a redemption season after tearing his Achilles in 2024. Speaking recently in Texas, Milton praised his new teammate, explaining how his perception of Prescott had evolved:

I didn’t know what type of person he was. I met him one time like ever before this, and it was just kind of like a quick little 5-second meet and greet, and that was pretty much it. He’s a great person. A great leader,” Milton said. He added, “I didn’t expect to come here and get taught the way that I’m being taught… the way that Dak just handles everything. He’s always on time. He’s always the first one in the building, always the last one to leave. And that says a lot about him.

Former Cowboys coaches have echoed similar praise. One noted:

Frankly, if he does anything wrong, he probably does a little bit too much away from here because he’s always working on his game.

For now, Prescott remains the clear starter, but the team will also evaluate Milton’s performance under pressure.

Jerry Jones’ comments draw major attention

Speaking about large contracts for injury-prone stars, Jones said:

Just because we sign him [Micah Parsons] doesn’t mean we’re gonna have him… I remember signing a player for the highest paid at the position in the league and he got knocked out 2/3 of the year – Dak Prescott.

Prescott’s response was measured:

Nobody wants to win more than me… I understand it’s a team game, but, at the end of the day, the quarterback is paid to fill in those gaps.

Dallas will need composure entering 2025, competing in a division with serious contenders like Philadelphia and Washington.
