This Saturday, September 6, the women’s final of the US Open will take place, featuring two remarkable athletes who have left an undeniable mark on the court with their power and elegance: Amanda Anisimova and Aryna Sabalenka.

Amanda Anisimova reached this stage after defeating Naomi Osaka in the semifinals, showcasing her ability to hit with tremendous depth and precision, along with a serve that consistently gives her the upper hand. Today’s match will be pivotal in determining whether she has all the necessary credentials to be crowned champion of this prestigious Grand Slam. Facing Sabalenka, the heavy favorite, will be a formidable challenge, but Anisimova is determined to leave her imprint, climb higher in the WTA rankings, and, most importantly, experience the unique thrill of lifting a championship trophy.

Anisimova’s early years

Anisimova is of Russian descent through her parents, but she was born in the United States on August 31, 2001, in Freehold Township, New Jersey. Her parents, Konstantin and Olga, quickly recognized their daughter’s potential in tennis and decided to fully commit to giving her the chance to succeed in the sport. To nurture her talent, the family relocated to Florida. It was her father who introduced her to tennis, taking her to the courts when she was just five years old and igniting a passion that would define her life.

By 2017, Anisimova was already excelling in junior tennis, rising to world No. 2. That same year, she captured the U.S. Open Junior title, defeating a familiar competitor, Coco Gauff, in the final.

Rising in the professional ranks

Anisimova turned professional in 2016 and steadily worked her way into the top 100 by November 2018. Along the way, she earned victories over top players, including a notable win against Petra Kvitová at Indian Wells. That same year, she reached her first WTA final at the Japan Open.

Her breakthrough moment came in 2019 when she won the Copa Colsanitas in Bogotá and advanced to the French Open semifinals, stunning one of the favorites, Simona Halep.

Mental health challenges and a comeback

In 2023, Anisimova took a step back from tennis to focus on her mental well-being, citing burnout and emotional exhaustion. During her hiatus, she explored painting, pursued university coursework, and worked on improving her mental resilience.

She returned reinvigorated in 2024, making the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. Her strong performances propelled her from outside the top 400 to within the top 20 of the WTA rankings in rapid fashion.

Wimbledon 2025 and beyond

This year has been spectacular for Anisimova. At Wimbledon, she reached her first-ever Grand Slam final as the tournament’s 13th seed. In the semifinals, she defeated her upcoming opponent, Sabalenka, but fell short in the championship match as Iga witek denied her the coveted title.

Net worth

Anisimova’s consistent success has kept her in the top 10, boosting her financial earnings. Her current net worth is estimated at $4 million, a figure expected to grow as her career progresses.

Today, she faces the monumental task of defeating the world No. 1 again, with the ultimate prize on the line: the US Open championship.
