Altuve is willing to do anything to play with Bregman… Is Bregman capable of doing the same?

Third baseman Alex Bregman is still in the dark about his future despite being one of the most sought-after free agents available, and the Houston Astros want him back, but negotiations are at a standstill.

Last week his teammate Jose Altuve did not hesitate to declare that he would be willing to change positions and even venture to play in the outfield for the first time in his career in order to have Bregman back, and clarified that he would do it not only for friendship, but also because his desire is to win and with Alex the Astros would be more complete.

“For Alex, I would do anything… Like I said, he’s one of the best players in the whole league and definitely one of the best players on the team. We want him to stay, so I’m willing to do whatever it takes to keep him,” Altuve said.

Bregman wants a long-term contract

According to reports, Bregman reportedly rejected a first offer from the Astros of six years and $156 million, while he is seeking a seven-year, $189 million deal, and other sources claim that the third baseman is looking for six years and $200 million.

Bregman’s refusal combined with Altuve’s offer were two issues that MLB analyst Dylan Delgatto raised when talking about the third baseman’s loyalty.

“Jose Altuve will literally do ANYTHING to keep playing with Alex Bregman. Bregman sees this and still doesn’t accept our offer. I guess he’s not that eager to do the same. Come on, Breggy. Let’s do it,” said Delgatto, about a question that Astros fans also share.

“I want to win and he’s going to be a guy that’s going to make this team better,” Altuve said at the Astros FanFest last week, adding “We have a better chance of winning a championship with him. That’s my answer: I’m willing to do whatever it takes to keep him.”
