Alphonso Davies, Bayern Munich defender who suffered a serious knee injury, updates the status of his recovery after being sidelined for seven months.

The process is more difficult mentally than physically. Not knowing how long you will be out or if you will be able to do certain things is hard

The Canadian footballer, who before his injury renewed his contract with Bayern when he was linked with a move to Real Madrid, tore the cruciate ligament in his right knee at the end of March 2025 while playing for Canada against the United States.

Alphonso Davies: “The hardest part of rehabilitation is over for me”

Alphonso Davies, who also suffered a cartilage injury, had to undergo surgery.

“The hardest part of rehab is already behind me. I’m really looking forward to getting back with the team and playing the sport I love,” Davies, who has been successfully replaced by Konrad Laimer, told FC Bayern TV.

Alphonso Davies, who has not yet been able to train with the rest of his teammates but is working individually, hopes to return to the pitch very soon.

“I’m running and training well. I just need to gain a little more muscle mass in my right leg,” he said.

Alphonso Davies acknowledges that “the process is more difficult mentally than physically. Not knowing how long you’ll be out or whether you’ll be able to do certain things is tough.”

“Sometimes the body says, ‘Enough!’ Then you have to be mentally strong,” he said.

Davies, who had missed 48 games for his team in the last three years, acknowledges that “there is no point in getting discouraged, complaining or feeling sorry for yourself. Injuries like these are part of the sport”.

“The only thing I can do now is fight for my recovery, not so fast, but in the safest way possible,” said the Canadian.
