The Indiana Fever (12-11) will face the New York Liberty (15-6) on Tuesday, July 22, at the Barclays Center Brooklyn. However, they will be without Caitlin Clark.
Speaking to the press, Fever head coach Stephanie White shared that CC is still recovering from a groin injury and will likely miss the game.
Unfortunately, injuries-both a quadriceps strain and groin discomfort-have caused the Indiana star to miss almost as many games as she has played this year. She has played in 12 games, while missing 11.
With Caitlin out once again, the team will have to reorganize to cover her absence and achieve encouraging results. And for one of her teammates, intensifying the attack is the key.
Boston reflects on Clark’s absence
In a report from Indianapolis Star’s Chloe Peterson, Aliyah Boston talked about how not having the 23-year-old star affects the team:
“I think it changes our offense a little bit, where some teams are going to be a little more back, depending on matchups on the floor. I think we space the floor really well. Everything changes when we hit shots,” said the power forward.
Clark has the highest average in assists for the Fever, with 8.8 and 16.5 points, despite experiencing a slump in her shooting even before her injury. Kelsey Mitchell leads in scoring with 19.1 points.
That’s why thinking about reorganizing as a team also offers each player a chance to contribute to the plays:
“Obviously, Caitlin’s a fantastic passer, but I think if we figure out, once again, different ways to get everyone who needs to touch the ball and when and where. So we just continue to trust our offense and let it flow,” added Boston, who is averaging 15.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists.
The truth is that neither Stephanie White nor the team have given an exact date confirming Clark’s return to the court. We’ll just have to wait and see how things unfold for the Indiana Fever.
