Alexis Ohanian reveals Serena Williams already has his seven-year-old daughter locked down to her first contract as the tennis star offers Olympia a seven-dollar allowance and weekends off. But why?
The 23-time Grand Slam winner is also known for her sharp business mind, something she shares with her 42-year-old husband who made his fortune by founding the Reddit social media platform.
Keen to pass on this trait to their children, they’re breaking her into the contract world early as the 43-year-old athlete takes advantage of household chores and weekly allowances to teach the kid a lesson.
Olympia must “feed the dog, clothes in the hamper, make her bed,” if she hopes to earn seven dollars per week from her parents, according to Ohanian‘s post on X.com (formerly Twitter).
The parents admit the goal behind the contract is to teach the youngster that putting in the work and effort is what will give her rewards, and it also passes on the lesson of accountability and being held to her word too.
“Good things come when you work for it,” Ohanian added online, also revealing Olympia will have the weekends off if she can hold up her end of the bargain with the four-time Olympic gold medallist.
Olympia to be taught about the value of money
The lessons don’t stop there either. Serena is also making sure she teaches her eldest daughter about financial responsibility, hoping to establish principles from a young age, through reading Mellody Hobson’s book, Priceless Facts about Money.
There’s little doubt that Adira, the couple’s second child, will also go through the same lessons when she reaches the right age; although she’s currently far too young. Born in August 2023, the toddler is just one year and seven months old.
“No matter how much or how many you have,” Olympia philosophically said. “Everyone has to deal with money.
“Understanding that can help you master it.”
