Boston Red Sox players received a reality check from their manager, Alex Cora, who sent them a clear and precise message about the possibility of reaching the MLB Playoffs. For the moment, the Massachusetts team remains third in the American League East, where they are still fighting to reach the next phase of Major League Baseball.

While the Red Sox have their own postseason plans, the team has yet to secure a spot in October. Although playoff chances were dwindling almost a week ago, the magic number is two for the team to secure its place in the dance, but manager Alex Cora gives the team a tangible check.

What do the Red Sox need to do to make the MLB Playoffs?

If Boston wins two of its last four games, they’re in, but if not, the team will have to hope that other teams like the Houston Astros don’t go on a good run to end the season. Despite controlling their own destiny, Cora focused on the games they have in front of them, saying that in addition to the “great position,” they have to “finish it.”

“We still have to finish it,” Cora said. “We put ourselves in a great position so far; we still have games to play; we just have to take it day by day; we enjoy this one, we’ll see what happens tonight and then we’ll know what we have to do the rest of the way to get to October.”

Red Sox update Roman Anthony injury

The Red Sox earned a crucial victory on Tuesday night in Toronto, reducing their magic number to secure a spot in the 2025 MLB playoffs to just three. With five games remaining in the regular season, Boston is in control of its postseason destiny. However, the absence of Roman Anthony could be a significant obstacle.

The rookie sensation has not played since he suffered an oblique strain on September 2. Although the estimated recovery time was four to six weeks, Anthony’s return does not seem to be close. Red Sox chief operating officer Craig Breslow indicated that Anthony still has a long way to go in terms of baseball activity.
