The 2026 Laver Cup is now history, with Europe’s victory over the Rest of the World this Sunday by 13 to 5. The Old Continent team followed the expected script to reclaim the crown they had lost a year ago in San Francisco. The victory was so overwhelming that Carlos Alcaraz and Rafa Jódar did not get to play their singles matches against Álex de Miñaur and Taylor Fritz.
The home team scored the last 10 points of the competition. De Miñaur’s victory over Zverev on Saturday left a partial score of 3-5. Andre Agassi’s men did not win again.
Jakub Mensik and Flavio Cobolli sped up the outcome by opening Sunday’s session with a comeback against Fritz and De Minaur. They succumbed 7-5 and 6-3.
Sascha didn’t falter afterward and asserted his authority against Learner Tien, 7-6(3) and 6-3. The fans, who practically filled the stands at London’s O2, were left wanting to see Carlitos’s magic live for one more day. The player from Murcia, cheering Zverev on from the sidelines the whole time, is a team player and promises to return to the Laver Cup.
Tien, one of the great promises of American tennis and winner of the 2025 Next Gen Finals in Jeddah —in the same London setting— did not make things easy for his German rival, who has two major titles in his trophy cabinet this season.
Learner forced a sudden death in the opening set and even had a set point at 5-6 on return. He sent a forehand wide into the doubles alley. The American lost the tie break, and with it his chances of victory slipped away.
The winners share one and a half million dollars equally. That means $250,000 for each one. The losers receive no official prize, although they do get the guaranteed fee individually negotiated for participating.
Los Angeles, by 2027
The next edition, the tenth, will take place from September 24 to 26, 2027, at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Los Angeles. The record, after nine editions, shows six trophies to three for the Europeans, who win on quality and quantity.
“I’m with them,” says Roger Federer, owner and the one who conceived the tournament together with his agent Tony Godsick. On the other side of the scale is Rod Laver, the legend who gives the event its name and who supports the Rest of the World team.
