Al Horford didn’t hesitate when Steph Curry and Draymond Green recruited him to the Warriors

The start of the 2025-26 NBA season is fast approaching, and every team is preparing to hit the court and showcase its best talent. Among those most eager to begin this new campaign is 18-year league veteran Al Horford, who could not be more excited about joining forces with two of the game’s most respected figures, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. When the opportunity arose, Horford didn’t think twice about heading west to become part of the Golden State Warriors.

The key pieces that brought Horford to Golden State

At the end of September, Horford signed a multiyear deal with the Warriors and immediately credited Curry and Green for convincing him to make the move. Their influence and reputation as leaders played a decisive role in his decision to leave Boston and chase another championship opportunity in the Bay Area.

The Warriors provided the type of well-run team, and championship opportunity this season, that made the move smoother, and Horford thought he would fit within their mix of high-level veterans and younger players looking to make their own mark,” wrote Nick Friedell of The Athletic. “Horford said at his opening news conference last week that he did not have a relationship with Warriors team leaders Stephen Curry and Draymond Green before signing with Golden State. But once it became clear that playing with the Warriors was a possibility, he started to get a recruiting pitch from both.

The Dominican center himself confirmed it, adding:

Yeah, I had communication with them, with Steph and Draymond.”… “And that was important. It happened very fast because it was at a point where they came to me and they’re like, ‘Hey, we’d love to have you,’ and all these things. And it was one of these things that, for me, looking at this fit and the potential, it just felt right. So them reaching out to me was important.

.

Horford’s decision reflects both his desire to compete for another title and his belief in the Warriors’ culture of discipline, teamwork, and excellence. Known for his leadership, professionalism, and defensive intelligence, Horford brings not only experience but also a stabilizing presence to a roster blending established champions with emerging young talent.

After spending the 2024 season with the Boston Celtics, Horford arrives in San Francisco motivated and eager to prove he can still make an impact. He has made it clear that his focus is on helping his teammates win crucial games, secure a playoff spot, and, once there, pursue the franchise’s ultimate goal, returning to the NBA Finals.

For Horford, joining Curry and Green is not just a career move; it’s a chance to be part of a legacy defined by winning.
